Midgard selects BC project collaboration system from UNIT4

20 July 2010

Midgard Limited, the main contracting division of J Reddington Limited, has selected UNIT4’s project collaboration system, BC, for a £53m residential and retail project in Woking, Surrey.

The four year scheme involves demolition of an existing site and construction of a 2 ½ acre complex including office buildings, retail units, restaurants and 449 flats and town houses with live/work facilities. The associated works include access roads, sewer systems, infrastructure, enabling and landscaping.

UNIT4’s BC will enable all parties working on the ‘mixed use scheme’, including Midgard’s client, consultants and sub-contractors, to share project information; such as documents, requests for information and site instructions, in a single, secure and fully auditable environment. The system has been used to manage the design review process and provide a means of tracking instructions, requests for information and requests for change.

Jonathan Wicke, Quantity Surveyor at Midgard Limited commented: “We selected BC because of its simplicity; we didn’t want users to have to follow lots of steps in order to put information into the system or get it out. The speed that documents can be transmitted between the team, and the systems document tracking capabilities, has enabled us to alleviate the need for a full time document controller. The set up emulates our existing processes and where processes were weak, the team at UNIT4 has helped us identify and rectify them through the system.”

Andrew Bowles, Sales Director at UNIT4 Collaboration Software Limited, said: “We are delighted to be assisting Midgard with this project. This is another great example of how our customers use BC to store, find and share project information. Our systems do not dictate a way of working but instead reflect our clients’ unique processes.”
